Hey It Worked

Blog still here. What do you think? Lost a lot of the clutter from the old version. Anything you miss?

Under Construction

Going to be doing some Upgrading (?!?) which I'm pretty sure will all end in heartbreak and tears. Here's some BNL to pass the time:

Test Case

So the news from the world of political blogging is that Mickey Kaus is going to try and mount a primary challenge to Barbara Boxer for California's Senate seat.

Kaus is a rather strange case. He has one of the very first political blogs, so he has a certain blogging street creed. But his program is a strange one. Despite his loud claims to be a Democrat, he seems to oppose much of their agenda. He hates labor unions with the fire of a thousand suns. He's a hard-liner on immigration. He spent the entire 2004 election cycle hating John Kerry, only to claim that he voted for him in the end. All of this makes for interesting posting and drives liberals nuts, but I doubt that it will compel anyone to vote for him. Is there any California Democrat thinking to themselves, "If only my party was harder on labor unions and Latinos." Such people have a name, and they are called Republicans. By calling himself a Democrat, Kaus is different and interesting. Wow, a Democrat who hates unions! How intellectually stimulating. As a candidate, he's in the wrong place.

Call it an electoral test of being contrarian. My guess is that it fails miserably.

Static

Internet trouble here at Craigorian Chant world headquarters last night, so I was left unable to both watch or comment on the State of the Union. Just assume both Obama gave a good speech and my commentary was both insightful and funny.

Traffic Drive!

So I've been blogging more recently, what with the extra free time and all. I figure more people should be reading all this hard work. So this week I'll be doing my best to spread the word about Craigorian Chant and all its wonders. Mustering what slender social media resources I have, and using some very questionable traffic generation sites. For you regular readers who keep coming back, feel free to help the cause. Tell your friends. In fact, here's what I ask of you, the reader:

1. Visit. Once a day is all I ask. I promise there will always be something new every day.
2. Leave a comment. Comments make me happy. Even if it's to call bull. Especially then.
3. Click the ads. I know there's nothing there you want to buy. Don't do it for the stuff. Do it for me.
4. Tell people about it. Work it naturally into the conversation. Cite me as an authority on a subject "As I was reading on Craigorian Chant at lunch today, clearly the implication is..."

Back Online

Thanks to the friendly neighborhood nerds down at Allocate Tech, I have a working computer again. Normal blogging to resume shortly.

Sorry

Sorry for the lack of posting around here. A very nasty bug has sidelined my computer. The damn virus is now blocking the loading of applications, including my anti-virus software! But the Craigorian Chant tech staff is working on it, and I'm seeking alternatives. So stay tuned.

Test Test Test

This post is a test. A test to see if I can post to the blog using e-mail. This is only a test. If this were an actual blog post, it would have a joke, or a deep poltical insight, or something.

Comando Bloggers!

From Danger Room:

A study, written for U.S. Special Operations Command, suggested "clandestinely recruiting or hiring prominent bloggers."

Now you may be thinking "government propaganda" but really its a chance to serve the military from the comfort of your own home. You could be a part of U.S. Special Operations Command, thats the special forces yo and never leave your pajamas.

Banned!

It has come to my attention in recent weeks that a number of Craigorian Chant readers are finding that the page is blocked at work for being obscene, subversive, or otherwise not proper for the work environment. I have mixed feelings about this. Of course, I'm proud to be banned. But if I can't keep you guys from doing real work, I feel like I haven't been doing my job.

I too keep the swearing down on this blog because I know my Mom reads it. It seems to be a universal trend.

Technical Advances

Behold a great step forward.

I clicked this photo with my cell phone, e-mailed it to myself and then posted it to the blog. The hardest thing was typing in my e-mail address on a cell phone keyboard. The things we can do.

$$$$$

Here's a story about making money from you web site with advertising. Here is a worthy goal:

Take Andrew Leyden, former House Commerce Committee counsel and founder of a dot-com venture that failed, who started PodcastDirectory.com, a search engine for podcasts. As the site's popularity rose from a hundred hits a month in 2004 to nearly a million now, Leyden started making the equivalent of an entry-level government worker's salary -- $30,000 to $40,000 a year -- simply because people clicked on ads. That allowed him to work at home in Chesapeake Beach, Md., trying to make more money by attracting still more traffic to his site.

They even have a term for it: Hopeful Hobbyists

"We have a segment of customers called 'hopeful hobbyists'" who have Web sites devoted to anything they might care about, from crochet to sailing, and who hope to eventually make enough money to quit their day jobs, said Willan Johnson, vice president of Yahoo Publisher Network, which launched a test version of its software last year.

Get clicking. I can't quit my day job without you.
