Result Oriented

The votes are in and there are certainly some results here. Every single California ballot measure lost. Most by huge margins. The redistricting measure, which I considered the only worthwhile measure in the whole bunch is losing 60%-40%. All of the Arnold - backed initives have gone down, which doesn't speak well to the prospects for the Govinator. I get the feeling that the space-time rift that has led to an Bodybuilder/Bad actor to be in charge of our State will soon close.

Democrats won governor races in both Virginia and New Jersey and the pundits are taking this as a sign the GOP is in trouble. I, of course, agree.

The surf chick story does not have a have a happy ending. Donna Fry lost 46%-54% to a former Police Chief in her race for the Mayor of San Diego. All I can say is:

Bummer.

In local news, measure I received an overwhelming no vote, mainly on the strength of a last minute Craigorian Chant endorsement.

Lucky and Good

The shuttle got up fine today, mainly because I watched with fingers crossed on both hands. I'm thinking of getting a rabbit foot to watch the reentry.

Election Day in San Diego today. Go, Donna Fry! Surf Chicks Rule.

Governator screws things up:

Last fall, Schwarzenegger rightly cited California's gerrymandered districts as a major cause for the dysfunctional Legislature. He set his legal and political team to drafting a ballot measure to reform how we draw legislative, congressional and Board of Equalization districts. Since then these Keystone Kops have managed to do everything wrong.

The irony is that redistricting is the one part of the Governator's "reform" agenda that might be worth doing. And he gets the paperwork wrong. Maybe having a bad actor as a political leader turns out to not result in smart government, Go figure.

San Diego

The game is afoot in San Diego, better known as the land where I got my Poli-Sci degree.

Donna Frye is leading polls to win the Mayor special election. The surf chick is going to shake things up. She has gone from write-in gladfly to frontrunner. And as a liberal in a rather conservative city. This is something to watch.

Also, San Diego Congress-critter Randy "Duke" Cunningham is getting in a bit of a bother. It seems a defense contractor paid $600,000 more than market price for Duke's house. TPM is on the story, and when Josh gets into something, you just have to sit back and watch.

I expect Craigorian Chant San Diego correspondent Jess to weigh in as well.
