Exposed

Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, is just bringing out the base id of conservative talking heads.

First there was Glenn Beck's "Are you a traitor?"

Now here's Dennis Prager, radio guy, getting his hate on because-

[Ellison] should not be allowed to [swear on the Koran] – not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.

What?

Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don’t serve in Congress. . . . Mr. Ellison, America, not you, decides on what book its public servants take their oath.

Wow! This is just pure "I hate Muslims." Thanks, Congressman Ellison, for showing us.

Thanks to Lean Left.

Gosh, conservatives can be awfully stupid. Personally, if he were to swear on the Bible I'd question that oath since he has no allegiance to the Bible. But, here's a bigger question...in a country that provides a "wall of separation" between church and state, why are our publicly elected officials swearing on the Bible, anyway? Am I the only who thinks that's odd?

It's no more odd than having "in God we trust" on all our money or continuing to have "under God" in our pledge of allegience. Separation of church and state my ass.

Anyway, do Jews also have to swear on the bible?

Actually, there's nothing in the law that says you have to swear on anything. Its just tradition. Seperation of Church and State just means the Government can't dictate religion, not that you can't have religous people in government.

Since Jews recognize the Old Testament, maybe they just substitute a Jewish Bible for the regular one. Next time someone sees Sen. Lieberman, please ask.

Craig, the question is not about religious people. The question is whether we can have a ceremony that has a religious object at its core. And Erin's point answers this: of course we can have it. We shouldn't, of course, but the wall between church and state has been leaky for many years, and sprouting more leaks every day.

Don't you guys know anything!?

Swearing on the bible ensures that our politicians don't have affairs with interns, take bribes, have relations with underage children or have ideas like "amnesty" get in the way of securing our borders.

Oh wait a minute....
