Decoded: Apocalyptic Aposiopesis

Were you as puzzled as I was about Bush's answer to the question "Who would you appoint to the Supreme Court?" He kind of bumbled around and then said something about someone who would be opposed to the Dred Scott decision, which I figured would just become Daily Show fodder for undermining the interests of his slave-holding constituency. Turns out that Dred Scott is a code word for Roe v. Wade. It also seems that Bush has a plethora of other coded messages for Evangelical Christians.

For a man who claims to be so commanding and forthright about his positions, this seems pretty underhanded. Why not just come out and say it? "I will appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn abortion rights". "I will govern US foreign policy based on radical Christian beliefs".
